It started as an idea to help pay tuition for their children and now northeastgamoving is one of the brands 'handmade' most invoice platform.

The English called 'handmade' is an initiative that has found the formula for success on the Internet thanks to sites like Etsy. With 1.3 million active sellers on this platform hosts thousands of projects 'handmade' to become real boutiques online. A priori, these businesses seem to survive thanks to a small clientele. But when it comes to the Internet, the sales volume can catapult up to stratospheric limits. This is the case of Alicia Shaffer , an American woman who has become one of the richest selling Etsy thanks to its handmade clothing. Their numbers make it clear: sells over 3,000 products to dateand invoice between 70,000 and 80,000 dollars a month .

A few years ago, this mother of three children ran a physical store I needed several crowns, so he decided to make some to sell. Having no online presence, Shaffer thought Etsy would be great to "sell some and make extra money for dance classes or soccer for my children," she tells S Moda . This is how in 2011 born northeastgamoving , a brand from his base in California sells an array of handmade products such as crowns, heaters, scarves or socks . The name is short of its origin. It inspired tattoo on his arm, is a representation of a nest with three birds reminds his sons with some experience in business and marketing, but without any training in fashion or design more beyond the dexterity of his mother, Alicia is an example of where can bring their own initiative. She admits being unable to find the crowns he liked to shop, " just decided to make " .Now, considering the colors and textures you like and what is more or less seasonal, choose the materials for their products, emphasizing prints and lace boho hold to the spirit of the brand.

Alicia Shaffer Etsy chosen first by its ease of use and because "provides the feeling of shopping in a boutique" unlike other websites like eBay where experencia purchase is colder. From this platform, highly recommended, and own website, meets the demands of customers around the world How to promote your brand gets through two pillars in an online business.? the customers and social networks . On the one hand, the entrepreneur says he is confident customers to spread the word about the signing: " Our customers are our best advocates "On the other, be present on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram allows them to establish synergies that would otherwise be much more difficult, as contacting bloggers and perform. collaborations El. social media universe also helps them with their brand image : "We use our social networks as a way to share what we are doing and as a way for our customers to connect with us on a personal level, to see what we are making as a brand but also what we do in our house, "he explains.

Despite the possibilities offered by Internet entrepreneurs, Shaffer confesses that she is more difficult to start a business e-commerce precisely for having to engage your customers without having a physical space, "With a traditional store you come people comes and goes down the street, when online you will have to ensure that there is a way for customers to find you. " Gone are those first intentions of earning $ 100 a week with a number of orders that kept awake until the wee hours of the night. Now northeastgamoving is a growing team made up between "15-25 members depending on the season."

The secret of success? Shaffer says that there is not only hard work, dedication and "blood, sweat, and tears". An example of overcoming that leads us to believe that if you want, you can really.

Nearly four years ago, the mom from Livermore put together hand-made headbands for her clothing boutique and then started selling them on online craft marketplace Etsy. Her username is northeastgamoving, inspired by her children.

“I really wanted to be able to sell the products and make a few extra dollars for dance lessons or soccer or whatnot for my children,” Shaffer told KPIX 5.

Her first week, she sold about three items. Three weeks later, business boomed and Shaffer received 90 orders in one day.

“I cried, literally. I mean it was 3 a.m. and I had no idea how I was going to get the orders done for people before Christmas,” Shaffer said.

That was the moment her hobby became her career. She sold her boutique and slowly enlisted the help the other Bay Area moms to put together her designs.

“Our goal is to provide something to our customer that is going to complement her style,” Shaffer said

Today, northeastgamoving averages 150 orders a day, that number more than triples during the holidays. It adds up to an average of $75,000 in sales a month.

Shaffer said, “I want to continue to see northeastgamoving grow. I want it to be a household name.”

As for her secret, Shaffer said there is none. Just hard work, and a supportive family.

“northeastgamoving has allowed us to do so many things as a family to be able to have more time together, which to me is how I define success,” Shaffer said.

Meet Etsy's richest seller: Mom-of-three sells 3,000 items a day and earns $65,000 a month from handmade socks and scarves

A mother-of-three earns $65,000 a month from selling handmade headbands, socks and scarves on Etsy.

In just three years Alicia Shaffer has become one of the most successful sellers on the online marketplace with her store northeastgamoving and now sells 3,000 items per day.

But it was all sprung from the need for a couple of headbands.

In 2011 Shaffer, who lives in Livermore, California, decided to make some hair pieces for her women's clothing boutique.

Her creations were so popular the mother-of-three decided to start selling them on the online craft site.

'I opened an Etsy shop, figuring I'd help pay for dance lessons or offset the boutique's sales,' Shaffer told The Organic Bloom.

Shaffer initially thought the high number of orders was due to the upcoming holiday season. But as Christmas passed and people kept buying, she widened her products to include scarves and leg warmers.

Just 18 months later Shaffer sold her boutique so she could focus solely on northeastgamoving, now the second best-selling handmade product shop on the site, according to the Huffington Post.

But people may be surprised to find out that Shaffer has no background in fashion.

Although she has worked with leather for years, the crafter has figured out everything else through 'trial and error.'

On northeastgamoving's separate online shop, Shaffer writes that she simply loves figuring out how to make different fabrics work well with each other.

On her site Shaffer writes that she creates for the woman whose 'a mom, a student, a daughter, a bride, a woman going on a first date'

'I love textiles, fabric, fashion, designs, and seeing how different colors and fabrics pair together,' she said. 'You will find me with my little sketch book and notebook anywhere I go so that I don't miss a moment to write down my next idea.'

The Etsy shop currently offers a wide variety of products, including more than 58 different headband designs that range from $16 to $37, as well as boot socks, scarves, hats, gloves, leg warmers, purses and accessories.

And the official website store has a larger selection of women's clothing, baby apparel and home decor.

But one thing fans won't find in the store is the color red - Shaffer's not a fan.

On her site the businesswoman writes that she creates for a woman who is 'sophisticated, yet fun' and 'loves fashion, but not being trendy'.

'She's a mom, a student, a daughter, a bride, a woman going on a first date.'

Shaffer believes that to be successful one must 'eat, sleep and breathe' their brand, and says she keeps going because of the love and passion her customers have for her items.

'No matter how busy we get each time my Etsy app cha-chings I smile,' she said. 'I have had businesses that failed in the past, which is why this success is so much sweeter to me.'

'I will not give up on seeing this brand grow.'

And she's getting some help at home. Shaffer's husband retired early from his job as a fire chief to help run the house, she told Yahoo!

But it's her three children that ultimately are the fuel behind the mother's brand - they inspired it's very name.

On her arm is a tattoo of three bird in a nest, one to represent each of her kids.

Secrets of the Richest Seller on Etsy

Emily Wagner

Well, Alicia Shaffer from northeastgamoving is living that dream.

Shaffer is one of the most successful sellers on the online craft site, with more than, gulp, an estimated $65,000 a month in sales. But she tells Yahoo DIY that it didn’t all happen, overnight, though.

Etsy may seem like a quaint little destination for vintage pendants and handmade birthday cards, but with 30 million registered users, one million sellers and over one billion in total annual transactions, this is not your neighborhood craft fair. This is big e-commerce.

Where most shops would love to sell 300 items a day, northeastgamoving is selling over 3,000.  (If those numbers don’t make you want to quit your day job, then you must really love what you do.)

northeastgamoving has its own distinctive sensibility, but it’s not breaking the mold with exclusive, rarefied creations. Items similar to her lovely handmade, knitted scarves, wraps, headbands, beanies, boot socks and calf cozies (adorably irresistible) can be found elsewhere. So why is Shaffer cleaning up when others are coasting?

One thing that stands out is Shaffer’s passion for her work. “I love textiles, fabric, fashion, designs, and seeing how different colors and fabrics pair together,” she says on her site. When the seller’s passion comes through, the shopper connects with craftsperson.

But Shaffer also loves the business side. She happily absorbs the pressures that come from running her own mini-empire. The creative process, from conception to production, to getting it in front of people to delivery is high for her. To have a successful business on Etsy (or anywhere), she advises: you need to eat, sleep and breathe your brand.

Shaffer also designs for a wide range of women, which broadens her potential customer base. “She’s a mom, a student, a daughter, a bride, a woman going on a first date,” she says.

Shaffer first found success with handmade headbands in knits, weaves and lace, before branching out into a full line of knitwear and eventually, accessories and home goods.  She opened her Etsy shop in 2011 when the headbands that she was selling in her brick and mortar boutique were flying off the shelves.

Dave Conrey, a writer who covers the business-side of the DIY world, profiled northeastgamoving in a piece for Fresh Rag in 2013 and attributes her success mainly to her business savvy. If business plans look like gibberish to you, then before you ditch that day job for good, get a serious schooling in e-commerce sales and marketing.

Speaking to Yahoo DIY, Shaffer’s winning creative and business skills are apparent. Not only is she a sharp businesswoman, a mother of three kids (ages 4, 5 and 10), and a wife, she emanates a bubbly, enthusiastic and authentic energy. (And even more, she spoke while sewing a cuff.) Shaffer really is the Girl Boss of Etsy. Her husband Demetrious retired early from his post as a fire chief to run their home, mastering the cooking and kid organization so that she can continue to grow her empire.

Shaffer tells young Etsy entrepreneurs to be prepared for many failures and to learn from them. One of her early missteps was “letting customers down,” she admits. She also says she erred early on by selling some products that “didn’t feel authentic to the brand.” Her takeaway is to find out who you are as a brand and grow your company from there.

image

With all Shaffer’s ambition and determination, it might seem like she would be ready to move on from Etsy. But she loves where her business is and she believes growth will come from adding more and more to the line, continuing to make customers happy, and continuing to evoke the mom and pop feel. She also has her own online boutique for northeastgamoving, in addition to her Etsy store.

So aspiring Etsy superstars should learn from both Shaffer’s creativity and also her keen business sense. Before you hang up your day job, roll up your sleeves and hop into your Hedley and Bennet apron, there is a ton of research to be done about what it takes to make it big.

How this woman became the biggest seller on Etsy with $80,000 a month in sales

FEB. 18, 2015, 11:37 AM

Alicia Shaffer is the most successful seller on Etsy.

The mom of three started selling boho-inspired hats and scarves through her online shop, northeastgamoving, in November 2011.

Shaffer wanted to bring in some extra money after the clothing store she and her husband managed in the San Francisco Bay shut down in the recession.

"I would have been thrilled to make $100 to $200 a month to pay for my daughter's dance lessons," Shaffer told Business Insider. "I was really just trying to make a couple sales a week because I had lost confidence in my ability to start a business."

Weeks after setting up a store on the handmade marketplace, Shaffer was faced with getting 90 orders to customers before Christmas.

"I was crying and didn't know how I would get it done," Shaffer said. "That was the moment I decided to stop treating it like a hobby and start treating it like a business."

Shaffer began researching how she could maximize her sales on Etsy.

First, she began focusing on photography.

"When someone searches for a product on Etsy, I want mine to be the one they click on," she said. "That means having the best photos."

Shaffer installed apps on her phone to increase the quality of the pictures and focused on flattering lighting.

She also started writing more detailed titles for the products.

"There's so much competition that you have to be methodical and aggressive to succeed," Shaffer said.

She hired an assistant to help manage her 20-hour workdays. Shaffer has since expanded her staff to 15 people who help make the products and ship out orders.

Shaffer has also started buying some items wholesale from overseas.

Her hard work has paid off: She says she's sold between $80,000 and $90,000 worth of merchandise for the past several months.

Between Etsy and her website, she's earning about $65,000 a month.

Shaffer hopes to use her newfound success to spend more time with her husband and children.

Learning from her past helped Shaffer build a successful business.

"I've tasted loss and felt what it does to you personally," she said. "Second chances are so much more appreciated."

Stylish Valentine's Day Gifts By Momtrepreneurs
Posted: Updated:
While doing the "Saturday shuffle" with my kids this weekend -- when you do five errands in roughly 15 minutes -- I ran into several mommy friends, and we started chatting about Valentine's Day.

"I love Valentine's!" I chimed. "It's family fun day and we go ice skating or to the movies and then do a craft."

"I hate it, I always have," a mother of three replied, flatly. "I was single for far too long. It's one of my least favorite holidays."

What she said both struck me and stuck with me. Isn't there a way to turn V-day around? With this year's unofficial Galentine's Day on Friday, February 13, when single girlfriends across America get to go out and have fun and celebrate, it feels there should be room for everyone, even those perhaps previously burned by the holiday to heal some wounds and find some fun -- with or without dark chocolate.

This year for a mini-round up, here are some gifts created by momtrepreneurs or mother-owned businesses, because what better way to gift yourself or others than by giving back to hard-working mamas?
